What to say to yourself? Changing your self-talk!

If you have a common thought or belief that makes you feel bad, you can replace it with an empowering thought. By repeating an affirmation to yourself regularly, both when the negative thought crosses your mind and at regular intervals throughout the day — by practicing this new belief — you can train your mind until it becomes ingrained into your implicit, automatic, memory. Over time these thoughts come by habit and you believe it.

Four Keys to Successful Affirmation Statements:

  • It must be believable and within your control
  • It must be present tense (happening now), personal (“I”), and positive (avoid “not” and “don’t”)
  • You must repeat it (3–5 times a day for 21–30 days)
  • YOU MUST FEEL IT

Now your turn! What are incantations?

Incantations are a step beyond affirmations, bringing them out into the world. They are a phrase spoken out loud with a physical gesture. By putting affirmations into motion, engages more of your brain and makes it more real to your mind.

If you find yourself in a situation where you want to do your incantation, but you are surrounded by people and want to avoid drawing undue attention, you can do it silently — but whenever you can, say it and say it with the feeling of it being already completed.

Incantations can be a whole phrase, like an affirmation, or a short phrase like, “I am confident!”

Ask yourself, “What affirmation would I like to use as an incantation?” or, feel free to write a new one!

What movement can you incorporate into reciting your incantation? Some examples are a fist pump, throwing your hands in the air, jumping up and down, or even dance!
